A young girl is possessed by a poltergeist as strange things happen in the home, such as things flying about and objects moving on their own. While Alfred Prescott doubts the seriousness of the situation, others work towards solving the mystery and another is out to prove none of it is real.

The action of the play takes place in the Living Room of the Vicarage of Long Barrow, near Dartmoor.
