Who loves Aladdin Sane? We do.

FARINGDON Dramatic Society certainly delivered the magical goods with their production of Ron Hall's Aladdin at Faringdon Junior School over six performances at the end of January and early February. The annual pantomime was a traditional one and it was apparent that the entire cast and crew had a great deal of fun working on and performing the show. Director Debbie Lock oversaw a tight production that was fast-paced, snappy and entertaining. Highlight. performances came from Alan Dover as Wishee Washee (with his giant duck), a splendid villain in the magnificently shouldered form of Abanazer, played by Daniel Lander, and comical moments from Gary Thomson's Widow Twankey There were strong performances from John Taylor as the stern Emperor, the youthful One Long Pong (Seb Allum) and the comedic young duo of Minnie and Winnie, played by Meg Porter and Verity Green.. Aladdin (Andrea Smith) and the Princess (Verity Roberts) made the show go with a zing as it travelled from China to Africa and back again, not forgetting the hand twirling Slave of the Ring, Katie Dyet and the green/blue trousered genie, Luke Gerry. The backing chorus were excellent with their Michael Jackson style cave dance and an interpretation of Flash! Bang! Wallop! What a Picture! The musicians were spot on with tunes ranging from Queen to the already Abanazer played by Daniel Lander mentioned number. The society looks forward to its next production in late June, which will be a reprise of Cold Comfort Farm, to be directed by Jo Webster. The read through is at the United Church on Monday March 8 with auditions taking place at the same venue three days later on Thursday 11.
