AUDIENCES for "Babes in the Wood", spread across
two weekends and six performances, totalled over 800. The pantomime was adjudged
to be one of the best the Society has produced. The large cast included over
forty children, many of them experiencing the excitement of amateur theatricals
for the first time. Hopefully the greasepaint will rub off on some of them and
they will join the ranks of the seniors in due course.
Auditions have now taken place for "Brush Up Your
Shakespeare", to be performed in the refurbished theatre at Buscot House in
June. Over twenty-five actors have been cast in a range of roles from some of
the Bard's most popular comedies - "Much Ado About Nothing",
"Twelfth Night", "The Taming of the Shrew",
|
"The Merry Wives of Windsor" and "A Midsummer
Night's Dream".
The drama onstage will be interlaced with a selection of
music of the period. The production is under the direction of Lucy Walden,
assisted by Denis Peach.
For its autumn production, the Society has selected the
musical "Cabaret", to be directed by Rachel Coward. Details of
auditions will be announced later in the year.
With the forthcoming closure of Reflections, the Society is
losing its regular box office. Our thanks and best wishes to Reflections: we are
pleased to announce that White Horse Country Wear in the Corn Market have kindly
agreed to take over advanced ticket sales.
